Well my first week of life in the mountains has been a busy but incredibly rewarding one.
I have recently been announced as an ambassador for Disabled Wintersport Australa (DWA) and in particular my role will include helping develop pathways and increase the levels of participation for women in adaptive snow sport and boy has my role started off with a bang!
We have just finished the first ever DWA women’s camp, 4 days of fun with a great bunch of women from all ages, all types of disabilities, all types of skiing level and some amazing female volunteers. I had my photo taken with our youngest participant – the beautiful Hollie.
Thredbo provided a mix of weather but by the end it was stunning blue bird skies so it was hard for everyone not to have fun! Most importantly we were able to talk to everyone and brainstorm ideas as how to encourage more women to participate in the amazing world of winter sport and discover what are the biggest barriers to everyone getting on snow.
By the end of camp it was like being in a family and so I think it’s safe to say the women’s camp will become a regular occurrence.
A big thank you to everyone who came and we can’t wait until they are all on snow again.
