The 2023 World Cycling Championships were a wonderful experience, you see for the first time in history they held every single cycling discpline’s World Championships at the same time and in the same location.
Glasgow, Scotland played host and with the Scot’s fanatical cycling fans the velodrome hosted a phenomenal atmosphere. It was fantastic to also have the first integrated track and para track programs and I personally hope to see this continue.
The Scot’s certainly lived up to there ‘summer’ weather with it feeling more akin to an Australian winter!
On the performance side of things it was a mixed bag of emotions winning 2 Silver in the WB 1km Time Trial and Match Sprint, great results, however with the margin to gold 0.06s and 0.01s respectively it felt more like a ‘loss’.
We were also disappointed not to be able to start the tandem team sprint. Unfortunately our mens tandem were involved in a crash, thankfully both were ok, however not well enough to compete and so we finished the competition with a DNS.
Personally, it’s now time to switch my focus to rowing as I head straight to the AIS European Training Centre to join my Australian Rowing Team mates as we prepare for the World Rowing Championships this September.
